Quality
Measured, recorded, repeatable
Quality philosophy
Quality philosophy
Quality is easier to build in than to inspect in. The approach is to understand what a part is for, make the process capable of producing it, and measure enough to show that it has.
A result that cannot be shown is not a result. Measurements are kept so they can be reviewed with the customer.
Inspection workflow
Five stages, one record
Step 1: Incoming review
Drawings and any material information are checked before work begins.
Step 2: First-piece check
The first part is measured against the drawing and approved to continue.
Step 3: In-process checks
Key dimensions are checked at set intervals during the run.
Step 4: Final inspection
Finished parts are checked against the drawing.
Step 5: Records and release
Results are recorded and the batch is released for dispatch.

Defined checks
Which features are checked, how, and how often, is set before production.
Calibrated measurement
Measuring instruments are kept in a known, checked condition.
Traceability
A part can be linked back to its batch and its records.
Corrective action
When something is wrong, the cause is found and the process is corrected.
